Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic leader with a commitment to safety to join our Terminal Operations team. Reporting to the Director, Terminal Operations, this position is responsible for the management of terminal operations within the Central Region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the consistent high standards of safety at the terminal for passengers, employees, and the public by implementing Corporate Safety and Risk Management processes and initiatives.
  • Ensure safe practices in terminal operations and a safe working environment for all terminal staff, including verifying that all staff are properly trained.
  • Work with all Terminal Managers and Supervisors to ensure daily adherence to all relevant safety practices and policies.
  • Familiarize terminal staff with policies and procedures as they relate to the specific terminal, conduct drills, and coordinate training for terminal staff.
  • Conduct rounds of the terminal, identify unusual activity, security breaches, and report as necessary.
  • Participate in Joint Site Safety Committee meetings as a management representative.
  • Coordinate the terminal response in the event of an emergency.
  • Manage and monitor absenteeism and workplace and customer injuries.
  • Ensure a high level of environmental standards.

Financial Management

  • Prepare annual terminal operations budget for labor, consumable supplies, maintenance, and other operational supplies.
  • Monitor and control terminal operations expenditures, explain variances, monitor labor costs, and authorize overtime.
  • Prepare quarterly terminal operations variance and forecast reports.
  • Identify and implement efficiency/productivity initiatives.
  • Liaise with other functional/departmental groups as required to ensure operational and financial objectives are met.

Human Resources/Employee Relations

  • Assess and hire terminal management/staff in a manner consistent with Company policies and procedures in conjunction with Human Resources.
  • Establish clear performance plans for each subordinate; regularly evaluate and document performance.
  • Apply the provisions of the collective agreement and act in accordance with delegated authorities when necessary.
  • Promote effective teamwork through timely and effective communication in matters relevant to terminal employees.
  • Work with Crewing on schedules and workforce needs.

Requirements

You have a post-secondary diploma or a related field along with 3-5 years' experience in managing a passenger transportation terminal. In addition, you have demonstrated experience in implementing strategic initiatives, leading both a union and non-unionized workforce, and creating and managing large operating and capital budgets. Experience in Marine Transportation is an asset. Travel is required.
