About the Role

The University of Northern British Columbia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance Lead Hand to join our Facilities Management team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing functional supervision of Maintenance Assistants and ensuring the preservation of a well-maintained, fully functioning, and safe environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervision and Coordination
    • Coordinate activities of contractors providing services within ancillary buildings
    • Prioritize, assign, verify, and close all WebTMA service requests related to ancillary requirements
  • Team Management
    • Ensure direct reports have certifications, training, tools, and supplies required to complete all assigned tasks safely and competently
    • Ensure compliance with established regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure that environmental protection and quality expectations are met
  • Operational Support
    • Operate mobile equipment (pick-up truck, skid steer, forklift, man-lift)
    • Perform basic carpentry, plumbing repairs, and painting
    • Provide minor and routine building maintenance such as changing light bulbs, mounting whiteboards, moving furniture and exercise equipment, drywall patching, and painting walls
  • Event Support
    • Set up furniture, tents, displays, and other items for functions or events both indoors and outdoors
    • Respond to fire alarms and other emergencies as required
  • Record Keeping
    • Record details of tasks and hours within a computer-based maintenance management system (WebTMA)
  • Grounds Keeping
    • Perform general grounds-keeping including maintenance of gardens, lawns, and pathways
    • Remove snow and apply sand to walkways and stairs
  • Logistics
    • Pick up and deliver freight or other items as required
Requirements
  • Education
    • High school diploma
  • Experience
    • Minimum five years' experience in building operations and maintenance, preferably gained in a post-secondary environment
    • Documented supervisory experience
  • Skills
    • Demonstrated skill in a variety of trades
    • Knowledge and experience in the safe operation of a forklift
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a service-oriented team environment
    • Ability to perform strenuous physical activity such as heavy lifting up to 50 lbs
