POSITION OVERVIEW
The Relief Community Support Worker plays a vital role in assisting individuals with developmental disabilities both at home and within the community. This position focuses on delivering engaging recreational support across various settings, facilitating the realization of each individual's potential while effectively managing associated risks. Additionally, this role offers respite services to families and individuals in need.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of a 2-year Community College diploma, ideally in Behavioral Science Technology (BST), Developmental Services Worker (DSW), or Child and Youth Worker (CYW)
  • Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience with individuals who have developmental disabilities is preferred
  • Comprehensive understanding of the needs and best practice service standards for individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Training in Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and First Aid
  • Possession of a valid Ontario driver's license and access to a dependable vehicle
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Community Support Delivery:
  • Executing the provision of services within community settings
  • Instructing daily living skills in various situations
  • Working towards the goals outlined in the Individual Support Plan (ISP)
  • Assessing individual skill strengths and areas for improvement
  • Transporting clients to various activities, appointments, and job opportunities

2. Respite Support Provision:

  • Assisting clients with daily living skills in their homes
  • Helping individuals with grocery shopping, meal preparation, and household tasks
  • Administering pre-measured medications as required
  • Communicating with primary caregivers and case coordinators to provide updates and share relevant information

3. Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Gathering client information and maintaining accurate records
  • Promoting inclusion and serving as a positive role model
  • Providing information to other social service agencies and healthcare providers involved with clients

4. Compliance with Policies and Procedures:

  • Adhering to relevant legislative, ministry, and professional standards associated with the role
  • Ensuring compliance with Quality Assurance Measures (QAM) as mandated by the Ministry of Children, Community, and Social Services (MCCSS)
  • Being knowledgeable about and adhering to the agency's policies and procedures
  • Maintaining a safe and secure working environment at all times

5. Health and Safety Responsibilities:

  • Following Health and Safety Program requirements in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Maintaining awareness of safety protocols for the agency, oneself, and the individuals receiving services
  • Complying with the agency's mandatory training requirements
