Position Overview:

The University of Toronto is seeking a qualified individual to fulfill the role of Sessional Lecturer within the Faculty of Arts & Science. This position will involve teaching a graduate-level course focused on critical issues in Canadian energy policy and the transition to a net-zero economy.

Course Code: PPG2013H - Topics in Public Policy: Canadian Energy Policy and the Transition

Course Synopsis: This course will delve into the recent dialogues among key stakeholders in the Canadian energy sector aimed at facilitating a transition to a net-zero economy. Participants will explore the current narratives and identify essential gaps in achieving a unified national strategy. The curriculum will emphasize Canada's potential to emerge as a global leader in sustainable energy solutions while addressing the commitments outlined in the Paris Agreement.

Class Structure:

The course is expected to accommodate approximately 25 students, with classes scheduled for Wednesdays at 10 AM. The delivery method is anticipated to be in-person, subject to adjustments based on current circumstances.

Appointment Duration:

The appointment will span from the beginning of the academic term through the end of the semester.

Compensation:

Salary will be determined based on the lecturer's experience and qualifications, with specific scales outlined for various ranks within the Sessional Lecturer designation.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a graduate degree in Law, with a specialization in public policy. A robust understanding of the regulatory landscape and prior teaching experience at the graduate level are essential. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a PhD.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Delivering engaging lectures and facilitating discussions.
  • Developing and refining the course syllabus.
  • Providing academic support through weekly office hours.
  • Creating and assessing assignments and examinations.
  • Submitting grades in a timely manner.
