Position Overview:

The Facilities Maintenance Lead will oversee the management of millwrights and electricians within a unionized manufacturing setting. This role is crucial for ensuring a safe and compliant work environment according to OHSA standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and guide maintenance staff to ensure optimal performance and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Foster a culture of safety and compliance throughout the facility.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage technical and organizational challenges.
  • Ensure the reliable operation of plant machinery and services, focusing on cost efficiency, safety, and product integrity.
  • Collaborate with various departments to address production needs and equipment issues, which may involve working across different shifts.
  • Manage work order scheduling through Maximo, while assessing training needs and employee performance.
  • Develop and mentor a skilled maintenance team to enhance overall operational effectiveness.
  • Maintain positive relations with union representatives and employees.
  • Continuously enhance the preventive maintenance program to minimize downtime and optimize maintenance expenditures.
  • Oversee plant projects involving both internal staff and external contractors.
  • Address employee concerns in line with the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Assist in the execution of capital projects as required.
  • Plan and execute preventive maintenance tasks on equipment as necessary.
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Food Safety, and Health & Safety regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Trade certification as a Licensed Millwright or Licensed Electrician is preferred.
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience is advantageous.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a maintenance supervisor in a fast-paced, automated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in the food, beverage, or packaged goods sector is highly valued.
  • Proficiency in PLC troubleshooting and programming is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of OHSA regulations.
  • Demonstrated success in enhancing workplace safety and compliance.
  • Ability to effectively train and develop team members.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of equipment troubleshooting, adjustments, and repairs.
  • Familiarity with work order systems and preventive maintenance practices.
  • Experience with food processing standards such as CFIA, HACCP, and Continuous Improvement methodologies like Six Sigma is beneficial.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with project management capabilities.
  • Proven ability to cultivate a results-oriented team environment.
  • Experience managing operational budgets.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays.
