Position Overview

Join the Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) team as a Registered Nurse specializing in Neurosciences.

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to become a vital part of the Neurosciences unit at Vancouver General Hospital. This role involves:

Responsibilities of the Registered Nurse in High Acuity at VCH include:

Delivering nursing care to critically ill patients with intricate, acute, and frequently co-existing chronic conditions, both autonomously and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. Enhancing the quality of life from the perspective of patients and their families. Engaging in consultation, collaboration, and communication with other healthcare professionals. Demonstrating proficiency and leadership in nursing practices. Continuously maintaining and advancing personal clinical expertise. Participating in designated hospital committees and approved research initiatives as required.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Completion of an accredited advanced nursing specialty program in High Acuity Nursing or two years of recent, relevant experience in a high acuity environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge & Skills

Comprehensive understanding of nursing theories and practices within a client/family-centered care model. In-depth knowledge of BCCNM's standards of practice for registered nurses. Proven ability in nursing practice related to the designated patient population. Demonstrated capacity to plan and implement care strategies aligned with client/family priorities. Proven ability to assess patient responses to care and respond appropriately. Capacity to adapt to new or unforeseen circumstances, solve problems, and prioritize effectively. Ability to manage conflict situations effectively. Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to engage and communicate effectively with patients, families, colleagues, physicians, and other healthcare staff. Ability to counsel and educate patients and their families based on their needs. Demonstrated leadership through initiative and independence. Proficiency in using medical equipment and supplies relevant to the clinical area. Skills in CPR techniques. Competence in techniques pertinent to the designated clinical area. Ability to operate related medical equipment. Basic computer skills to manage a computerized patient care information system. Physical capability to perform the responsibilities of the position.

Additional Information

Work hours, including days off and work areas, may vary based on operational needs and the provisions of the Collective Agreement and applicable regulations.
