Position Overview:

The Deputy Chief Engineer plays a pivotal role in overseeing the planning and management of operations and maintenance for a campus facility under the jurisdiction of the Chief Engineer. This position involves leading and coordinating the efforts of building shift operating engineers, internal trades personnel, and external service providers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Address operational challenges presented by faculty, students, and staff, ensuring minimal disruption to academic activities during repairs, upgrades, and renovations.
  • Guarantee the safe and continuous operation of mechanical systems, including heating, cooling, compressed air, and water supply systems.
  • Provide expert technical guidance to team members, maintain deficiency logs, and actively seek energy conservation initiatives.
  • Manage the operational budget for the section effectively.

Qualifications:

Education:

Possession of a 1st Class or 2nd Class Operating Engineer license. Comprehensive knowledge of refrigeration, heating systems, air handling, and A/C systems, enabling effective direction and instruction of subordinate engineers.

Experience:

A minimum of seven years of relevant experience, including at least two years in a supervisory capacity, or a combination of education and experience.

Skills:

Proficient in handling operational and maintenance equipment. Competent in standard office software applications such as Word and Excel. Familiarity with Bailey boiler controls and Co-Generation gas turbines is advantageous.
