Who are we seeking?
In light of our ongoing expansion, we are on the lookout for a Project Management Controls Expert to join our Ontario Region team, specifically in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Ontario, Canada. This role requires a seasoned professional with comprehensive expertise in planning, scheduling, cost management, and estimation within a consulting engineering framework.
The ideal candidate will collaborate within the Ontario Regional Project Management Office (PMO), delivering Project Management Controls support across all GHD's Business Groups (BG's). The nature of this support will vary based on project requirements and will be provided both on-site and remotely.
In this dynamic and high-performing environment, your role will encompass:
Overseeing the project controls personnel assigned to various projects. Ensuring the implementation of all project control facets for assigned projects or portfolios, including Scheduling, Cost Management, Change Management, and Risk Management, in alignment with GHD's policies and industry best practices. Taking an active role in all or specific aspects of project controls, depending on project complexity and team structure. Collaborating closely with the Project Manager on all significant project functions, with a primary emphasis on managing and supporting project controls. Engaging with engineering discipline leads to assist in updating design deliverable progress and schedule revisions. Analyzing data and formulating recommendations regarding the economic, financial, and other project implications. Regularly reviewing budgets and schedules with the Project Manager, Design Manager, and Discipline Leads, identifying discrepancies, and proposing solutions to meet scope, budget, and schedule objectives. Advising on change notices while adhering to established change management protocols. Collaborating effectively with the finance team, particularly project administrators, to ensure project budgets and invoices are precise, coordinating with the Project Manager to ensure timely client invoicing. If necessary, coordinating the preparation of capital cost estimates by verifying quantity estimates from each discipline and forwarding them to the responsible estimator. Providing coaching or mentoring on best practices in project controls processes within the project team or among other project controls staff as needed. Offering guidance to junior technical staff when assigned to shared tasks, ensuring the accuracy and quality of their work.What you will contribute to the team:
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent diploma from a recognized institution, accompanied by a minimum of ten years of extensive technical, administrative, and project experience; at least 10 years in project controls within an engineering design context. Proven experience in delivering project controls/services for large, multi-disciplinary projects, from design initiation through to construction completion. Demonstrated expertise in managing project controls functions, with hands-on experience in: Comprehensive knowledge of scheduling techniques, cost management processes, and risk management strategies; experience in developing and managing project metrics, including earned value, CPI, and SPI; a solid understanding of project controls in a design environment (especially in Design-Build projects); familiarity with project control systems such as P6, @risk (or similar); and a high level of proficiency in cost analysis (e.g., MS Excel) and planning/scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project or Primavera P3/P6). The capability to navigate uncertainty, adapt to changing priorities, and manage multiple tasks effectively. Skills in team building, staff management, and mentoring.
