Position Overview

The Clinical Educator plays a vital role in fulfilling the diverse needs of patients within the Regional Renal Kidney Care Program. This position is responsible for delivering expertise, guidance, orientation, and skill development for both clinical and support personnel, ensuring the provision of safe and high-quality care for patients enrolled in the program. The Clinical Educator collaborates with interdisciplinary teams and Quality Experience Leaders to implement evidence-based practices aimed at achieving clinical program goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Exemplify the mission, vision, and values of OSMH in alignment with the organization's strategic objectives.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource to enhance frontline care delivery in accordance with established standards.
  • Engage in providing constructive feedback, coaching, and mentoring to frontline staff.
  • Deliver educational support to Regional Renal Satellite partners.
  • Facilitate skill enhancement, growth opportunities, and a positive learning atmosphere for the interprofessional team.
  • Assist Preceptors and Post-Secondary Educators in creating safe and relevant clinical learning experiences for students.
  • Offer educational initiatives addressing clinical performance audits, learning needs assessments, quality improvement projects, and practice modifications.
  • Contribute subject matter expertise to the formulation of controlled documents (e.g., policies, procedures, standards of care) for the Quality and Interprofessional Practice portfolio.
  • Educate, demonstrate, and assess clinical skills both at the bedside and in the Simulation Lab, utilizing clinical competence models.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate innovative learning experiences for onboarding new hires and ongoing education to maintain and advance practice.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in product trials and supply chain decisions with a focus on patient safety and evidence-informed practice.
  • Support educational initiatives linked to the hospital's Quality Improvement Plan, Strategic Plan, and Accreditation processes.
  • Collaborate with regional initiatives and external professional organizations.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the leadership of the Regional Renal Kidney Care Program.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required; a graduate degree in Nursing, Education, or a related field is preferred.
  • Must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Continuing education or certifications relevant to the area of responsibility are required.

Experience:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience within the acute care continuum, demonstrating strong clinical knowledge, critical thinking, and professional judgment.
  • Preferred experience in specialty areas such as Emergency, Critical Care, Kidney Care, or Pediatrics.
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring, and leading teams to achieve quality outcomes is preferred.
