Job Summary

The Pharmacy Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the Pharmacist in the technical aspects of prescription filling and administrative duties, enabling the Pharmacist to focus on providing exceptional patient care. As a key member of the Pharmacy team, the Pharmacy Assistant is expected to participate in all aspects of Pharmacy Operations, demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Prescription Processing: Receive prescriptions from patients, ensuring compliance with provincial legal and regulatory requirements. Assess prescriptions for completeness, including patient information, prescriber details, and special requests.
  2. Computer Functions: Perform tasks as directed by the Pharmacist, including data entry, price checks, patient information updates, and interpretation of written prescriptions.
  3. Prescription Filling: Fill prescriptions under the supervision of the Pharmacist, selecting appropriate products, performing accuracy checks, and labeling and organizing prescriptions for pharmacist review.
  4. Inventory Management: Assist the Pharmacist in maintaining optimal stock levels of drugs and supplies, checking for expired medications, and ordering new stock as needed.
  5. General Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and organized dispensary, including stocking supplies, cleaning equipment, and ensuring a safe working environment.
  6. Clerical Organization: File prescriptions, invoices, reports, and correspondence, and complete administrative tasks as assigned.
  7. OTC Operations: Assist with over-the-counter operations, including ordering, stocking, and cashier duties as assigned by the OTC Manager and/or Pharmacist.
