Nursing Student Extern - 8 West Inpatient Medicine
Overview:

We are currently seeking Temporary Casual Nursing Student Externs to support our medicine and surgical departments.
Reporting Structure: Manager, 8th floor
Key Responsibilities:
The Nursing Student Extern serves as an unregulated healthcare provider, delivering essential personal support to patients at Humber River Health. Responsibilities include:
- Providing basic care, including assistance with daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, and feeding for up to 10 patients.
- Working under the guidance of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses, adhering to departmental policies and procedures.
- Documenting activities of daily living (ADLs), including intake and output, and communicating relevant information regarding patient care.
- Reporting any clinical concerns to the direct supervisor promptly.
Qualifications:
- Enrollment in years 2-4 of a nursing program is required.
- Current CPR certification is mandatory.
- Strong communication and customer service skills are essential.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Proficiency in using technology in a healthcare setting.
- Capability to provide basic assistive care with regular supervision and mentorship from nursing staff.
- Compliance with mandatory training on Privacy & Confidentiality, WHMIS, Fire & Safety, and hand hygiene.
- Good attendance record is expected.
Work Environment:
Location: Humber River Health– Wilson Site
Shift Patterns: Rotating shifts, including 8 or 12-hour days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
