GENERAL OVERVIEW

The Plant Manager plays a crucial role in steering production and operational support teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality products safely, punctually, and economically, while maintaining excellent customer service. This position champions safety initiatives across plant operations and drives continuous improvement efforts on the production floor. The Plant Manager is tasked with directing, managing, and executing operational strategies at the Cambridge facility to align with the objectives of the Industrial and Municipal Business Units, including overseeing capital investment initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and inspire production and operational support teams, encompassing Planning, Purchasing, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Engineering, Shipping, and Operational Administration, to meet plant safety, quality, timely delivery, and productivity benchmarks.
  • Champion all Health and Safety protocols within the facility by providing guidance on policies and procedures, while continuously enhancing safety records through addressing both physical safety concerns and employee safety perceptions.
  • Foster strong employee relations at all organizational levels, while motivating, coaching, and developing a diverse and high-performing leadership team.
  • Drive the execution of new manufacturing initiatives, including strategic resource allocation and the application of continuous improvement methodologies to enhance efficiencies.
  • Establish annual operational budgets, inventory control objectives, and performance targets for departmental leaders, including managing the annual capital planning process for the facility.
  • Engage in supply chain strategies to strengthen essential vendor partnerships and enhance lead-time performance.
  • Facilitate regular collaboration and engagement between cross-functional departments.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Engineering or a recognized equivalent.
  • A minimum of 10 years of supervisory and/or managerial experience, preferably in an industrial manufacturing setting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Fundamental understanding of operational finance and budget management.
  • Capability to devise strategies and exercise sound judgment while achieving desired outcomes amidst multiple departments, priorities, and personnel.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with employees across all organizational levels.
  • Strong conflict resolution abilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Physical demands typical of an office role, including extended periods of sitting and extensive use of a personal computer and telephone.
  • Support on the factory floor is essential.
  • Potential exposure to caustic substances in certain areas of the plant.
  • Must be able to endure long hours in a manufacturing environment and support after-hours business requirements as necessary.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Standard manufacturing and office environment. When occasionally working in specific shop areas, personal protective equipment (PPE) will be recommended and/or required (safety shoes, safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection, face shield, gloves, apron, and boots). Must possess the ability to support extended business hours to fulfill customer needs.
