About the Role

The Custodian On-Call plays a vital role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and overall well-being of our schools. As a key member of our Service Operations team, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing routine janitorial and custodial tasks, including cleaning, waxing hallways and stairs
  • Securing the school at night and ensuring adequate heat and light
  • Responding to non-routine problems and emergencies, including shutting off water, unplugging sinks, toilets, and drains, and performing minor repairs
  • Assisting students, staff, and the public as needed, including locking or unlocking rooms, moving furniture or equipment, and providing facility information
  • Supporting the recycling program and maintaining a clean and sustainable environment
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A working knowledge of janitorial and custodial methods, materials, and equipment
  • Sufficient knowledge of facilities and systems to safely respond to emergencies
  • English fluency to understand and carry out oral or written instructions
  • A Building Service Worker Certificate (BSW) is not required, but it is considered an asset
  • The ability to work effectively with students, staff, and the public
  • Up to three months of related work experience in janitorial services and building maintenance operations is preferred
