About the Role

Alberta Innovates is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director, Data and Analytics to lead our organization's data strategy and vision. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing data management technologies, driving organizational change towards a data-driven culture, and providing leadership to our data organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Communicate Strategic Plans: Create and implement strategic plans for data and analytics initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, priorities, and business plan.
  • Lead Data Management Technologies: Implement and operate data management technologies, prioritizing data integrity, security, and accessibility.
  • Drive Organizational Change: Promote awareness and adoption of data and analytics capabilities, driving organizational change towards a data-driven culture.
  • Provide Leadership: Lead the data organization, overseeing governance, compliance, and continuous improvement efforts to optimize data practices and drive tangible business outcomes.
Requirements
  • Post-Secondary Education: A post-secondary education from a recognized institution in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or related program.
  • Experience: ~10+ years of experience in progressively responsible roles within data management, analytics, corporate reporting, business intelligence, or related fields.
  • Leadership Experience: ~5+ years of experience in leadership positions, with demonstrated leadership in areas such as data analysis, business intelligence, data engineering, or data governance.
  • Technical Skills: A proven record of successfully leading and developing technical teams, managing complex projects, and delivering impactful business outcomes.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to translate business needs into data strategies and initiatives.
Assets
  • Data-Related Certification: Data-related certification (e.g., Certified Data Professional).
  • Private and Public Sector Experience: Combination of private and public sector experience is ideal.
  • Data Visualization Tools: Proficient in data visualization tools like PowerBI, Tableau, or similar.
