JOB SUMMARY:
The Patient Porter plays a vital role in the healthcare team, ensuring the smooth transfer and assistance of patients within the Diagnostic Imaging Department. This position is under the general supervision of the Manager of Diagnostic Imaging.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Porter will be tasked with:
- Facilitating the safe movement of patients to and from the Diagnostic Imaging area.
- Managing the distribution of departmental laundry.
- Assisting Technologists in the positioning and support of patients during imaging procedures.
- Ensuring the comfort and safety of patients at all times.
- Stocking necessary supplies and preparing stretchers for use.
- Delivering specimens as needed and maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
- Performing additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated experience in a Diagnostic Imaging or similar healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of universal precautions and infection control protocols.
- Familiarity with Diagnostic Equipment.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management abilities.
- Proficiency in using Meditech modules and effective keyboarding skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage patient flow in a busy environment.
- Physical capability to lift, turn, and transfer patients, including the use of mechanical aids.
- Commitment to core values such as Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork, and Joy.
- Understanding of safety programs and practices within the healthcare environment.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
Employment terms are governed by the Collective Agreement with the relevant union. Successful candidates must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector.
