WHERE IS THIS POSITION LOCATED?
Situated on the southern coast of Vancouver Island, North Cowichan is home to approximately 31,000 residents and employs a dedicated team of 450 staff members. The Municipality is strategically positioned between Nanaimo and Victoria, providing a unique opportunity to influence the communities of Chemainus, Crofton, Maple Bay, and South End/University Village. Your workplace will be conveniently located along the Trans-Canada Highway, ensuring a straightforward commute.


WHAT WILL YOUR ROLE ENTAIL?
Your primary focus will be on both short-term and long-term planning for water, sanitary, drainage/flood protection, and transportation infrastructure. You will play a crucial role in supporting the design and construction of infrastructure, as well as assisting the Operations Department in the management and maintenance of all water, sanitary, drainage/flood protection, and transportation assets. With your Engineering degree and P.Eng. designation, you will lead initiatives in:

  • Water and sanitary system modeling.
  • Drainage and transportation modeling.
  • Asset management methodologies.
  • Conceptual and preliminary infrastructure design.
  • Operational support for sanitary and water treatment systems.
  • Land development application assessments.
  • Supervision of designated departmental personnel.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS SHOULD YOU HAVE?

  • Ability to excel in a collaborative team environment.
  • Proven skills in maintaining accurate records and preparing conceptual and preliminary drawings, as well as utility records and spreadsheets using Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and other relevant software.
  • Experience managing engineering and project team staff in a unionized setting.
  • Strong independent judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Capability to present complex technical and financial information to senior leadership and Council.
