WHERE IS THIS POSITION LOCATED?
This role is situated in the vibrant community of North Cowichan, located on southern Vancouver Island. With a workforce of 450 and a population exceeding 31,000, this municipality is strategically positioned between Nanaimo and Victoria, allowing you to positively influence various neighborhoods including Chemainus, Crofton, Maple Bay, and South End/University Village. Your workplace will be conveniently located along the Trans-Canada Highway, facilitating easy commutes.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Your primary focus will be on both short-term and long-term planning related to water, sanitary, drainage/flood protection, and transportation infrastructure. You will collaborate with the infrastructure design and construction team, as well as assist the Operations Department in maintaining all related assets. With your engineering degree and P.Eng. designation, you will be instrumental in:

  • Modeling for water, sanitary, and drainage systems, as well as transportation.
  • Implementing asset management strategies.
  • Conducting conceptual and preliminary designs for infrastructure projects.
  • Supporting the operation and maintenance of water and sanitary treatment facilities.
  • Evaluating servicing needs for land development proposals.
  • Overseeing designated departmental personnel.

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU BRING?

  • Proven skills in maintaining accurate records and preparing technical drawings and utility documentation using Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and related software.
  • Experience managing engineering and project teams in a unionized setting.
  • Strong independent judgment and capability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical and financial information to senior management and governing bodies.
