Job Summary

The Labour Relations and Human Resources Compliance Specialist is responsible for coordinating activities, particularly data reporting and metrics, and supporting projects and recurring programs within the Compliance team. This role also provides support to the larger Labour Relations team, ensuring day-to-day operations and HR Compliance and Labour Relations processes are properly documented.

Main Responsibilities
  • Prepare and distribute reports to meet Compliance requirements and Labour Relations business needs, enabling end users to run their own reports where possible.
  • Track complaints, issues, and legal cases that implicate HR and Labour Relations, pulling reports and analyzing data for trends.
  • Support the harassment complaints resolution process, especially communications with workplace committees.
  • Update and circulate a briefing document highlighting the potential or actual impact of legislative changes.
  • Provide on-boarding and first-level support to users of Labour Relations systems, referring requests and incidents to HRIS and I&T or vendors when appropriate and works with HRIS, I&T, or vendor to resolve them.
  • Draft presentations and other communications at the request of the Compliance team and Labour Relations leadership.
Special Projects
  • Develop new processes to improve team efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Explore new ways to share and present data to support compliance and Labour Relations business needs.
  • Collaborate with HRIS, I&T, and liaise with the Labour Relations team to realize a smooth transition to new Labour Relations software systems and processes.
Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and be available to work evenings and weekends when necessary. The role requires minimal travel (5%).

RequirementsExperience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an office setting.
  • Experience in interpreting and applying collective agreements and relevant federal employment legislation.
  • Experience in building strong and positive relationships with stakeholders.
Education/Certification/Designation
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or related discipline.

Technical Skills/Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of the fields of HR and Labour Relations.
  • Knowledge of Canadian federal employment legislation.
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
  • Broad knowledge of CN's network.
  • Understanding of or ability to learn Grievance Tracking System (GTS), Performance Assessment Process (PAP), Systems, Applications and Products (SAP), ServiceNow, SharePoint.
  • Fluently bilingual both written and verbal (English and French).
