Position Overview: The Salvation Army in Canada is dedicated to providing exceptional assistance to adults facing developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. We are seeking a Full-Time Residential Support Specialist to join our dedicated team.

Role Responsibilities: This role involves reporting to the Residential Manager and requires a commitment to working 40 hours per week. The schedule includes rotating shifts designed to accommodate program needs.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong passion for developing and executing programs focused on personal care, advocacy, and community engagement. Collaboration is key, as this position requires working effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, community members, and family.

Compliance and Standards: The Residential Support Specialist must ensure that all activities adhere to established legislation, policies, and procedures, including but not limited to Employment Standards and Occupational Health & Safety Standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A completed 2-3 year diploma in Developmental Services or a related field, combined with relevant experience.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
  • Ability to obtain Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification upon hire.
  • A valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's License is preferred.

Experience and Skills:

  • A minimum of 2-5 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, particularly those with dual diagnoses.
  • Experience in writing and implementing Individual Support Plans.
  • Strong skills in counselling and de-escalation techniques.
  • Preferred experience in medication administration.

Core Competencies:

  • Ability to complete all mandatory training as required.
  • Willingness to undergo background checks as mandated.
  • Commitment to understanding and supporting the mission of The Salvation Army.
