Our residential programs in Developmental Services focus on providing life skills training and transition planning for adults with developmental disabilities or dual diagnoses. The role involves offering support and counseling, facilitating life skills development, ensuring safety and security, managing crises, and performing administrative and facility maintenance tasks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support and Counseling: Assist individuals in making informed decisions regarding daily living activities, including hygiene, budgeting, cooking, nutrition, social skills, and achieving personal goals.
  • Life Skills Development: Implement life skills programs both in residential settings and within the community to promote independent living.
  • Community Engagement: Facilitate participation in community activities, ensuring safety and support for individuals.
  • Crisis Management: Address challenging behaviors in residential and community environments, employing strategies that promote positive behavior and effectively managing crises.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure a safe and healthy environment for both residents and staff in accordance with established policies and legal requirements.
  • Administrative Support: Provide clerical and administrative assistance to the program.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Social Services (e.g., BSW, BA, DSW, SSW).
  • Proficient in computer applications, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Current First Aid and Safe Management certifications.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience in the Developmental Services sector, specifically:

Working directly with individuals with developmental disabilities or dual diagnoses, providing support and counseling, facilitating life skills, and ensuring safe management.

Strong understanding of the Social Inclusion Act and the Act for the Supports of Persons with Developmental Disabilities.

  • Familiarity with the Developmental Services Sector.
  • Knowledge of community resources, both internal and external.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to facilitate individual and group sessions that enhance independence in daily living skills.
  • Assessment skills for service delivery and operational issues, including risk assessment.
  • Program planning skills for the implementation, evaluation, and modification of programs.
  • Effective crisis intervention skills to manage confrontational situations while maintaining service delivery.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to adapt to various audiences.
  • Demonstrated core competencies in:

Flexibility: Adapting approaches when necessary.

Change Leadership: Engaging others in the change process.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Proficiency in French, both verbal and written, is considered an asset.
