Full-Time Residential Support Specialist

Position Overview:
The Salvation Army in Canada is committed to delivering exceptional assistance to adults facing developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. We are currently seeking a Full-Time Residential Support Specialist to join our dedicated team. This role will report directly to the Residential Manager and will be responsible for providing comprehensive support in various locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing and implementing support strategies, conducting behavioral and mental health evaluations, and ensuring timely completion of medical assessments and documentation.
- Facilitating personal growth for residents by creating Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and conducting regular program reviews.
- Acting as the primary advocate for residents, promoting self-advocacy and collaborating with healthcare professionals and community resources.
- Gathering and analyzing data to refine and enhance support plans continually.
- Managing residents' personal belongings and overseeing medication administration and health appointments.
- Providing financial guidance to residents, maintaining accurate records of their expenses.
- Coordinating community engagement activities, including outings and recreational trips.
- Encouraging independence in residents through meal preparation assistance and supervision.
- Ensuring a clean and safe environment by adhering to health and safety protocols.
- Training and supporting new staff, students, volunteers, and family members.
- Upholding the agency's mission and program objectives.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to various environmental factors, including noise and potential hazards.
- Ability to manage challenging behaviors and maintain composure in stressful situations.
- Physical demands may include lifting and moving items up to 50 lbs.
Qualifications:
- A completed 2–3-year diploma in Developmental Services or a related field.
- Current certifications in Standard First Aid and CPR Level C.
- Willingness to obtain Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification upon hire.
- A valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's License is an asset.
Experience and Skills:
- Preferred experience of 2-5 years in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, particularly those with dual diagnoses.
- Proficiency in creating and updating Individual Support Plans.
- Experience in medication administration is advantageous.
- Strong counseling and de-escalation skills are essential.
- Commitment to ongoing training and compliance with agency requirements.
