Position Overview:

The University of Toronto is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Sessional Instructional Assistant within the Faculty of Arts & Science, specifically in the Department of Art History. This position is designed to support the course FAH101H1S, which explores significant works of art and architecture from various historical periods.

Course Overview:

FAH101H1S provides a comprehensive introduction to the relationship between art and history, focusing on a selection of notable artworks and architectural structures. The course emphasizes the development of critical skills necessary for art historical analysis, including observation, interpretation, and written expression. Participants will engage in various assignments, including short writing tasks and practical exercises, enhancing their understanding through lectures and visits to art collections.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Participate in weekly online lectures.
  • Facilitate one or more in-person tutorial sessions.
  • Assess and manage student grades.
  • Supervise examinations and assessments.
  • Conduct office hours for student consultations.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • A strong foundation in Art History, with a broad understanding of relevant historical and geographical contexts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (MA or PhD) in Art History.
  • Experience in evaluating undergraduate student performance.
  • Demonstrated interest in innovative teaching methods and student engagement strategies.

Compensation:

The position offers a competitive hourly wage, along with vacation pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
