Position Overview:

The role of the Electrical Technician involves ensuring the effective operation and maintenance of electrical systems within the facility. This position requires a thorough understanding of electrical codes and safety standards, as well as the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of a technical training program and apprenticeship in electrical work.
  • Valid electrician license (309A or 442A).
  • At least two years of relevant experience in the field.
  • Proficient in interpreting pre-maintenance work orders to identify tasks and locations for repairs. Capable of reading schematic diagrams to diagnose and fix equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve equipment malfunctions. Familiarity with diagnostic tools and procedures to assess electrical issues.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with production teams and supervisors regarding equipment repairs and work orders. Ability to convey technical information clearly to operators.
  • Competence in using high voltage testing equipment and applying formulas from the Electrical Code for cable sizing based on motor specifications and cable lengths.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively with other trades and professionals to install, repair, and maintain electrical systems.
  • Resourceful in utilizing databases to investigate recurring equipment issues within the facility. Proficient in computer-assisted design and manufacturing.
  • Commitment to ongoing safety training and certification updates, including WHMIS, TDG, First Aid, and CPR. Willingness to learn about new equipment through manuals and practical experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ensure adherence to all relevant legislative requirements and:

  • Implement the Global Operating System Plays;
  • Comply with OHSAS 18001:2007 Health and Safety management standards;
  • Follow ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management standards;
  • Maintain compliance with TS 16949 Technical Specification Management and Linamar Quality Basics standards.
  • Uphold and promote Linamar's Core Values and Leadership Behaviors.
  • Balance customer, employee, and financial satisfaction by optimizing facility performance indicators in line with Linamar's strategic objectives.
  • Support lean initiatives as outlined in the LPS system.
  • Maintain 5S standards within the department.
  • Conduct inspections of electrical systems to ensure compliance with Ontario Electrical Standards Act.
  • Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and electrical code specifications for industrial electrical installations.
  • Perform installation, examination, replacement, or repair of electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, fiber-optic and coaxial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures, and other electrical components as necessary.
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance.
  • Document and log electrical modifications.
  • Manage inventory of spare parts and procure materials cost-effectively.
  • Interface with CNC equipment as required.
  • Coordinate with plant services and contractors as necessary.
  • Mentor and guide electrical staff to ensure adherence to performance standards.
