The Grounds Maintenance Specialist plays a crucial role in executing tasks that involve physical labor within a landscaping team. This position entails the operation of various hand and power tools, site preparation, trimming of natural environments, trench digging, debris cleanup, and waste removal. The Specialist may also provide assistance to other skilled workers and the Foreperson.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carrying out a range of tasks and assigned duties that involve demanding manual labor at outdoor projects and worksites
  • Ensuring a tidy job site; collecting all tools and equipment and securing the site daily to mitigate potential hazards
  • Loading and unloading vehicles, as well as managing material handling and storage
  • Executing opening and closing responsibilities
  • Performing basic maintenance on equipment as required
  • Upholding personal health and sanitation standards
  • Interpreting safety/employment manuals and other work-related documents
  • Adhering to safety regulations and maintaining a clean and organized facility
  • Following proper safety and incident reporting procedures; reporting issues to the Foreman, Safety Director, or HR Manager
  • Executing other job-related tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver's license prior to employment
  • A combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work
  • Familiarity with the proper use of equipment, materials, and supplies used in heavy/highway construction work
  • Basic knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily tasks according to the work schedule
  • Capability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for extended periods, and perform strenuous physical labor under challenging field conditions
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in using equipment and tools safely and correctly
  • Ability to understand, follow, and convey written and oral instructions
  • Dependability and consistency in meeting attendance schedules
