Your Role as a Diesel Truck Mechanic
As a Diesel Truck Mechanic at GT Group, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our fleet by installing, maintaining, testing, and repairing various mechanical components of trucks. Your expertise will encompass diesel engines, transmissions, suspensions, steering systems, and brakes.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostic tests to determine the condition of vehicles and identify worn or damaged parts.
- Maintain equipment availability by adhering to preventive maintenance schedules. This includes installing component upgrades, controlling corrosion, and completing winterization procedures.
- Repair and overhaul major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems such as powertrains, electrical systems, air conditioning, fuel and emissions control, brakes, steering, and hydraulics.
- Perform machine shop operations, including adjustments and alignments for various components like bearing loads, gear tooth contact, valve mechanisms, governors, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units.
- Verify vehicle performance through test drives and by adjusting controls and systems to ensure optimal functionality.
- Comply with all federal and provincial vehicle requirements to maintain safety standards.
- Maintain a professional appearance for vehicles by cleaning, washing, and painting as needed.
- Keep accurate records of services and repairs performed on vehicles.
- Ensure the smooth operation of shop equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and arranging for necessary repairs.
- Assist other mechanics with complex assignments to foster a collaborative work environment.
- Perform layout work for the fabrication of parts and equipment as required.
Position Requirements
Education & Experience
- High School diploma is required.
- A Diploma of Professional Studies in automotive mechanic/diesel mechanic is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy-duty trucks.
- Proven expertise in diagnosing and repairing diesel engine systems, transmissions, and other critical components.
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude with a deep understanding of automotive systems.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to industry standards.
