About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Educational Assistant to join our team at Elsie Fabian School. As an Educational Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students who require additional academic focus in literacy and numeracy interventions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement research-based approaches for literacy, numeracy, and ELL interventions, as directed by the teacher.
  • Adhere to guidelines set out within reading programs, such as Fountas and Pinnell, and evaluate the effectiveness of strategies being used.
  • Follow Individualized Program Plans (IPPs) and Intervention Support Plans (ISPs), as directed by the teacher and Classroom Support Teacher.
  • Implement reading intervention programming with minimal supervision.
  • Communicate the reading level of students and provide strategies for reading, writing, and word decoding to students and parents.
  • Schedule weekly meetings with the teacher to discuss intervention plans and student progress.
  • Plan daily reading, writing, or numeracy activities under the direction of the teacher or CST.
  • Prepare and modify materials to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Organize and prepare program materials, games, supplies, and wall displays.
  • Work with computer programs to assist literacy, numeracy, and/or spoken English development.
  • Assist with pre-teaching concepts from the curriculum.
  • Implement ELL approaches, including vocabulary development, speaking English, reading, and writing development.
  • Implement daily record keeping for student literacy, numeracy, or ELL portfolios.
  • Complete term progress checklists with the teacher.
  • Complete performance records of reading, including reading fluency, word recognition, reading comprehension, auditory processing, spelling word lists, and other informal tests, as required by the teacher.
  • Provide supports for ELL learners to promote vocabulary, oral comprehension, and communication in English.
  • Prepare individual materials to teach literacy and numeracy concepts to mastery levels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Key Requirements
  • Hold an Educational Assistant Certificate.
  • Related degree or diploma is considered an asset.
  • Previous related experience is required.
  • Experience working in a First Nations community, including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, and values, is a definite asset.
  • Clean Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector required.
  • Valid class 5 Driver's License and Clean Driver's Abstract required.
  • Successful candidate will be required to live in or relocate to Fort McMurray, Alberta.
