About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Education Outreach Instructor to join our Education team at Fort McKay First Nation. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering exceptional educational services to school-aged and mature students, while fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead instruction and provide quality teaching, ongoing analysis, and pedagogical knowledge to support optimum learning for all students at an outreach high school.
  • Teach Mathematics, Science, English Language Arts, Social Studies, Physical Education, and Career and Technology Studies courses, with a focus on Math and Science.
  • Work with individual students or groups of students in the classroom and other settings to promote academic success.
  • Collect and prepare learning materials, utilizing technology to support student learning and engagement.
  • Responsible for scheduling appointments for students with exceptionalities who require one-to-one support.
  • Use effective instructional strategies to help students with lessons and assignments, promoting a positive and productive learning environment.
  • Develop and implement Physical Education programming, including field trips and activities that promote physical activity and well-being.
  • Design and deliver Career Technology Studies programming in Fashion Studies, Foods, Art, and other areas, catering to the interests and needs of students.
  • Create a classroom culture that values inclusion, equity, and differentiated instruction, promoting a sense of belonging among students.
  • Participate in the school community beyond the classroom, building positive relationships with students, parents/guardians, peers, and other stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain inclusive learning environments that respect and celebrate diversity, promoting a safe and welcoming space for all students.
  • Develop and apply foundational knowledge about First Nations, Métis, and Inuit cultures, traditions, and values to benefit all students.
  • Comply with legal frameworks and policies that underpin the Alberta education system, ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Provide tutoring and homework help to Junior and Senior high school students in the evenings, promoting academic support and success.
  • Communicate with Indigenous Liaison and Fort McMurray High School Principals to identify students who may benefit from additional support.
  • Collaborate with external organizations, such as Careers the Next Generation, Athabasca Tribal Council, and NEAFAN, to provide students with opportunities and resources.
  • Create and enforce classroom rules that promote a positive and respectful learning environment, addressing the needs of a diverse and multi-grade classroom.
  • Develop and maintain a classroom culture that values respect, excellence, and pride, promoting a sense of community and belonging among students.
  • Ensure students integrate into the classroom, promoting socialization and academic success.
  • Motivate and encourage students to participate in learning activities, fostering a love of learning and academic engagement.
  • Track statistics, such as demographics, attendance, and classroom activities, to inform instruction and promote student success.
  • Distribute report cards to parents at the end of each semester, providing regular updates on student progress.
Key Requirements
  • Possess a Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Knowledge of teaching Math, Science, English Language Arts, Social Studies, CTF, and CTS courses, as well as Physical Education and various junior high school subjects.
  • Experience working in a First Nations community, with knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, and values.
  • Clean Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector required.
  • Valid class 5 Driver's License and Clean Driver's Abstract required.
  • Successful candidate will be required to live in or relocate to Fort McMurray, Alberta.
