Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and culturally sensitive Indigenous Cultural Assistant to join our team at Northern Lights College. The successful candidate will provide culturally responsive support to Indigenous students, staff, and community members, promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and plan cultural events and activities that promote Indigenous student success and well-being
  • Work closely with Indigenous Student Services Manager and Indigenous Student Navigators to support Indigenization and reconciliation learning opportunities
  • Develop and implement culturally sensitive programs and services to support Indigenous students
  • Build relationships with local Elders, community stakeholders, and Nation performers to provide cultural ceremonies and entertainment for events
  • Lead cultural connections and engage students through cultural teachings and contextual Indigenous learning

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of relevant post-secondary education and 3-5 years of experience working with Indigenous students, communities, and Elders
  • Demonstrated experience and cultural training to lead and support traditional and contemporary Indigenous art and activities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an intercultural understanding of non-verbal communication
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and maintain a high standard of work in a fast-paced environment
