Job Title: Director of Finance

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Finance to join our team at Marymound Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the financial functions and activities of the organization, ensuring the effective management of financial resources and the provision of high-quality financial information to support business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement financial strategies and plans to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
  • Manage the preparation of financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Oversee the accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting.
  • Supervise a team of accounting staff and ensure performance standards are maintained.
  • Assess financial implications of planned initiatives and develop potential budgets.
  • Monitor trends in costs and service patterns.
  • Prepare the audit files and coordinate the annual financial audit of the Agency's accounting system.
  • Ensure implementation of auditor recommendations approved by the Board of Directors.
  • Develop or update policies on appropriate expenditure authorizations and signing authority and recommend options to strengthen internal controls.
  • Manage the consolidated payroll system and commensurate accounting functions including the bi-weekly processing of the Agency payroll.
  • Act as Agency representative in all matters related to payroll policy and procedure with external stakeholders including Canadian Customs and Revenue Agency (CCRA), CPP, EI, Employment Standards etc.
  • Conduct an annual review of insurance needs and ensures appropriate and cost-effective coverage is purchased.
  • Monitor risk management issues and makes/implements recommendations to address concerns.
  • Works cooperatively with government officials and provides required information for licensing and funding purposes.
Qualifications:
  • BSc/BA Accounting, Finance or relevant field, CPA designation preferred.
  • Five years' experience in a senior administrative or accounting/payroll position.
  • Five years experience with a not-for-profit agency preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability for financial control, analysis, and investment.
  • Analytical ability and an aptitude for detail.
  • Ability to manage a program inclusive of planning, administration, staffing, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Ability to provide leadership and direction and effectively manage staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and take initiative.
  • Ability to identify issues and problem-solve.
  • Ability to actively contribute to and work effectively as part of an executive management team.
  • Ability to engage management in understanding and managing their program budgets.
  • Ability to build effective work relationships as well as partnerships with external individuals and organizations.
