Job Summary: Medical Laboratory Assistant required to work in a laboratory setting, performing various functions related to specimen procurement, data entry, and customer service.

The Medical Laboratory Assistant will work under the direction of Management, supporting all members of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine by performing various functions relating to the pre and post-analytical phases of testing. These functions include:

  • Specimen procurement, receipt, and processing
  • Data entry
  • Media, reagent, and smear preparation
  • Sterilization
  • Clerical duties
  • Loading specimens on an analyzer

The ideal candidate will have a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent, strong written and verbal communication skills, and basic understanding of medical terminology. They will also have manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects, and be able to perform procedures with a high degree of accuracy.

The Medical Laboratory Assistant will work rotating shifts, weekends, and/or holidays, and may be required to work off-site, including long-term care facilities, communities, or private homes. They will interact with various stakeholders and clients, and must adhere to all applicable NSH/PLM policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects
  • Ability to perform procedures with a high degree of accuracy
  • Basic computer skills, Meditech experience preferred
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Compensation and Incentives:

$23.19 - $26.27 Hourly
