About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the pre and post-analytical phases of testing, including specimen procurement, data entry, media preparation, and customer service activities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate records, adhering to safety and infection prevention protocols, and providing exceptional customer service to patients and healthcare professionals.

This is a permanent, part-time position with 37.5 hours bi-weekly. The successful candidate will be eligible for our comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.

About You
  • Recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent
  • Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) certification and registration
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Manual dexterity and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic computer skills and experience with Meditech
  • Access to reliable transportation
  • Competencies in other languages an asset
