About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Butcher Shop Assistant to join our team at Rui Gomes Meats & Food Market. As a key member of our meat department, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality of meat products for our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and Prepare Meats: Clean meats to prepare for processing or cutting, and ensure they meet our high standards of quality and safety.
  • Cut and Trim Meats: Cut carcasses, sides, and quarters, and trim and prepare standard cuts of meat for sale.
  • Prepare Special Cuts: Prepare special cuts of meat ordered by customers, and ensure they are accurately labeled and priced.
  • Wrap and Package Meats: Wrap and package prepared meats for sale, and ensure they are attractively displayed in our store.
  • Remove Bones and Weigh Meats: Remove bones from meat, and weigh meats for sale to ensure accuracy and fairness.
  • Cut Poultry and Grind Meats: Cut poultry into parts, and grind meats to prepare for sale.
  • Make Special Sausages: Make special sausages using our salami mixer and cooker, and ensure they meet our high standards of quality and safety.
  • Slice Cooked Meats: Slice cooked meats to prepare for sale, and ensure they are attractively displayed in our store.
  • Prepare Special Displays: Prepare special displays of meats, poultry, and fish products to attract and engage our customers.
  • Shape and Tie Meats: Shape, lace, and tie roasts, other meats, poultry, and seafood to prepare for sale.
  • Prepare Special Orders: Prepare special orders for customers, and ensure they are accurately labeled and priced.
Requirements
  • Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 3 years to less than 5 years of experience in a butcher shop or meat department.
  • Language: Fluency in English, and proficiency in Portuguese and Spanish.
  • Work Setting: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with tight deadlines and attention to detail.
  • Equipment and Machinery Experience: Experience with manual cutting utensils, power grinders, salami mixers and cookers, sausage machines, and slicing machines.
