Lead Tax Consultant - Canadian Corporate Tax

The Canadian Corporate Tax division offers comprehensive income tax advisory, compliance, reporting, and audit assistance for all Canadian business units and functions.

Our diverse Canadian Tax team consists of 20 tax professionals, specializing in Commodity and Product Tax services.

As a Lead Consultant, you will report directly to the Director of Canadian Tax and play a crucial role in the daily operations of the Corporate Tax department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert knowledge related to tax provisions and returns, including conducting tax research to offer guidance to our business units.
  • Assist various business units in preparing quarterly tax provisions for Canadian subsidiaries.
  • Analyze and clarify changes in effective tax rates and future tax positions of Canadian entities.
  • Collaborate with a team to prepare analyses and reports on income taxes as reflected in the audited financial statements.
  • Support compliance and reporting for a multinational life insurance organization.
  • Complete corporate tax returns and fulfill other compliance obligations for Canadian subsidiaries.
  • Embrace a mindset of continuous process enhancement and automation within compliance and reporting functions.
  • Build strong relationships with business units to understand internal accounting models, processes, administrative systems, and controls.
  • Engage with external auditors and Federal and Provincial tax authorities.
  • Assist with Federal and Provincial tax audits.
  • Research and analyze a wide array of tax-related issues.
  • Support senior staff members with corporate tax initiatives.
  • Participate in special projects related to income taxes as required.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation in tax compliance functions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Enrolled in, or willing to enroll in, the CPA In-Depth Tax Course.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, with a willingness to embrace new technologies.
  • Familiarity with the financial services sector is advantageous.
  • Experience with tax compliance software is a plus.
