Role Summary

What is the opportunity?

As a key member of the RBC Phillips, Hager & North Investment Counsel team, the Junior Investment Advisor collaborates with seasoned Investment Advisors to develop tailored investment solutions for affluent clients, trusts, and philanthropic organizations. This role involves supporting Advisors in executing strategies and overseeing client portfolios consistently. Under the guidance of a senior Advisor, the Junior Investment Advisor is expected to demonstrate skills in client engagement and the ability to effectively convert high-net-worth prospects. The primary goal of this position is to cultivate the expertise required to transition into the Investment Advisor role within a two-year timeframe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and nurture internal and external referral networks
  • Formulate and implement a strategic business plan
  • Create, document, and maintain detailed profiles for each client, outlining next steps to enhance and solidify relationships
  • Participate in client meetings as necessary, including initial consultations and annual reviews
  • Conduct thorough client assessments
  • Execute action plans and proactively manage client portfolios, ensuring alignment with Investment Policy Statements and risk management protocols
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding inquiries about their investment portfolios
  • Ensure compliance with RBC Phillips, Hager & North Investment Counsel and industry regulations in all actions taken

Qualifications for Success

Essential Requirements

  • A university degree, ideally in Business or Economics
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation
  • Experience in portfolio management
  • Strong communication skills to discuss investment, economic, financial, and tax-related topics with clients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in the investment sector
  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP) certification
