As a vital member of a collaborative healthcare team, the Clinical Nurse Leader is entrusted with the comprehensive assessment, strategic planning, execution, and evaluation of patient care services. The Clinical Nurse Leader will spearhead clinical practices by overseeing and coordinating surgical activities, managing essential resources, and ensuring optimal patient flow within the surgical environment.

In this leadership capacity, the Clinical Nurse Leader is expected to exemplify a professional demeanor, maintain a positive outlook, and exhibit exceptional communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal abilities. Acting as a role model and mentor within the department, this position will oversee specific surgical services, demonstrating adaptability across various surgical specialties. The Clinical Nurse Leader plays a crucial role in fostering quality improvement initiatives and cultivating a professional atmosphere at all times.

The Diagnostic Treatment Center (DTC) Operating Room features 13 state-of-the-art theatres, performing a wide range of surgical procedures including general surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedics, trauma care, plastic surgery, maxillofacial surgery, urology, thoracic, and vascular interventions. With 5 theatres equipped for advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques, the center conducts over 11,000 surgeries annually, primarily focusing on high-intensity inpatient cases.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Clinical Nurse Leader, your duties will include:

  • Overseeing staff assignments and patient flow management.
  • Serving as a clinical resource and advocate for nursing personnel.
  • Providing direct nursing care as needed.
  • Leading initiatives to enhance quality patient care and operational effectiveness.
  • Utilizing your extensive knowledge and clinical expertise to address complex healthcare challenges collaboratively with patients, interprofessional teams, and administrative stakeholders.

You will be instrumental in delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while embodying the shared vision and values of Alberta Health Services.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have completed an accredited nursing education program and possess an active or eligible registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Additionally, current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Baccalaureate in Nursing is preferred, along with knowledge of advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques, robotic surgery, and multi-trauma care involving orthopedic, abdominal, and thoracic procedures. A Peri-operative Certificate and Canadian Nursing Association (CNA) Certification in Peri-operative Nursing are also advantageous.
