Position Overview

The Facility Operator is responsible for the safe operation and upkeep of various machinery, tanks, controls, transfer systems, and other components within asphalt plant operations. Key duties include managing rail car movements and loading and unloading trucks and rail cars. This role is essential for maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of asphalt production processes while adhering to safety standards.

Main Responsibilities

  • Manage plant automation and perform dispatching tasks, including documenting inventory transfers, production orders, and truck movements.
  • Conduct inventory counts, including monitoring tank fluid levels.
  • Handle the loading and unloading of rail cars, trucks, totes, and pails.
  • Oversee the addition of additives to truck loads.
  • Maintain site cleanliness, including managing waste and spill cleanup.
  • Assist with plant maintenance and operational improvements.
  • Support production processes, including solution and polymer preparation.
  • Engage in milling asphalt and emulsion products.
  • Operate blending systems.
  • Utilize forklifts as needed.
  • Foster positive interactions with customers and truck drivers.
  • Participate in emergency response situations, including accidents and spills.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Plant Managers.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required for operating McAsphalt vehicles.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to collaborate in small teams.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure, demonstrating responsibility, resourcefulness, and autonomy.
  • Willingness to work outdoors, at heights, and in various environmental conditions.
  • Experience with pumps, piping, heat tracing, and hot oil heaters is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with a strong interpersonal approach.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel at an intermediate level, along with strong organizational skills.
  • A good sense of humor is considered a valuable asset.
