Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Asphalt Paving Specialist to join our paving division. This role is essential in delivering high-quality asphalt work across various projects, ensuring that we meet the demands of our clients while adhering to strict timelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the screed of the paver to achieve the required depth and grade for roadways, pathways, and parking areas.
  • Utilize Top Con automatic grade controls to set the angle and depth of the screed accurately.
  • Coordinate with the asphalt paving operator to maintain a smooth flow of operations.
  • Control the material flow and monitor its distribution over surfaces to guarantee uniformity.
  • Use depth gauges to confirm that the compacted asphalt meets specified depth requirements.
  • Conduct daily preventative maintenance checks on the paver to identify potential mechanical issues early and report them to the Foreman.
  • Document and report any unsafe work conditions, incidents, or near misses to the supervisor and engage in the investigation process.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience operating a screed in the paving sector.
  • Proficient in using Top Con grade control systems.
  • Experience working on commercial projects and city streets.
  • Certification in Construction Safety Training System (CSTS).
  • Ability to identify and articulate mechanical issues related to the paver.

Work Environment:

  • Availability for extended hours, including evenings and weekends during the active work season.
  • Ability to work in high-temperature conditions.
  • Willingness to travel for work assignments with little notice.
  • Must possess CSA-approved safety footwear.
