About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Commercial Marine Underwriter to join our team at Intact Financial Corporation. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for accepting, rejecting, endorsing, renewing, or canceling policies in accordance with our underwriting guidelines and procedures, applicable laws, and regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain sustainable profitable growth by focusing on business opportunities and long-term meaningful relationships with brokers.
- Use effective communication and negotiation skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company.
- Respond to broker requests and concerns in a timely manner.
- Participate in broker visits, industry functions, and marketing events to support broker relationship development.
- Rate and prepare quotes for new business and renewals.
- Handle policy transactions, including renewals, endorsements, and cancellations.
- Review underwriting reports and make recommendations as required.
- Communicate changes related to product pricing, underwriting guidelines, and new products.
- Support and mentor team members within Coast Underwriters and other divisions at Intact.
Requirements
- University degree or college diploma, or any combination of equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, with prior marine experience being a desirable asset.
- Strong customer service and time management skills.
- Demonstrates initiative, the ability to work under pressure, and flexibility to change.
- Strong team player with outstanding collaboration and communication skills.
- Inquisitive and self-motivated individual with strong analytical and negotiating skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain excellent relationships with brokers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to make decisions in time-sensitive situations, address complex problems, provide recommended courses of action, and take calculated risks.
- Interested in and stay up to date on business trends or other developments impacting our industry.
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- CIP designation or working towards designation.
- No Canadian work experience required, but must be eligible to work in Canada.
