At Intact Financial Corporation, we're seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter, Commercial Marine to join our team. As a key member of our underwriting team, you'll play a critical role in shaping our commercial marine insurance offerings.

About the Role

As a Senior Underwriter, Commercial Marine, you'll be responsible for:

  • Accepting, rejecting, endorsing, renewing, or canceling policies in accordance with Coast's underwriting guidelines and procedures, applicable laws, and regulations.
  • Focusing on sustainable profitable growth.
  • Developing business opportunities and long-term meaningful relationships with brokers.
  • Using effective communication and negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company.
  • Responding to broker requests and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Participating in broker visits, industry functions, and marketing events in support of broker relationship development.
  • Rating and preparing quotes for new business and renewals.
  • Handling policy transactions, including renewals, endorsements, and cancellations.
  • Reviewing underwriting reports and making recommendations as required.
  • Communicating changes related to product pricing, underwriting guidelines, and new products.
  • Supporting and mentoring team members within Coast Underwriters and other divisions at Intact.

What You Bring to the Table

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • A university degree or college diploma, or any combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, with prior marine experience being a desirable asset.
  • Strong customer service and time management skills.
  • The ability to demonstrate initiative, work under pressure, and adapt to change.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • Inquisitive and self-motivated, with strong analytical and negotiating skills.
  • The ability to develop and maintain excellent relationships with brokers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to make decisions in time-sensitive situations, address complex problems, and provide recommended courses of action.
  • A willingness to stay up-to-date on business trends and developments impacting our industry.
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • The CIP designation or working towards it.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada.
