The HANA Data Lake Relational Engine is a cloud-based SQL database server designed for efficient storage and high-performance analytics of relational data at an extensive scale. It utilizes SAP IQ technology and integrates seamlessly with SAP HANA Cloud and HANA Database.

As a qualified candidate for this position, you will be responsible for developing and enhancing core components of the relational engine across various domains, including database storage and access methods, cloud functionalities, performance optimization for both parallel and sequential execution, transaction management, and interaction with other SAP components.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, test, and maintain multiple modules within the HANA Data Lake Relational Engine and SAP IQ
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in existing designs and advocate for alternative strategies to enhance the database server, particularly concerning cloud functionalities and integration with other SAP components
  • Analyze, debug, and resolve complex database engine issues faced by customers and internal SAP stakeholders
  • Collaborate with architects and development leads on the design and execution of future cloud data processing and warehousing projects
  • Work alongside engineering teams across different regions to diagnose and address design challenges and customer-reported issues
  • Clearly communicate technical information
  • Uphold quality standards by consistently delivering high-quality outputs of significant complexity
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or computer engineering with a minimum of 5 years of software development experience or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience
  • Proficiency in multi-threaded concurrent and parallel programming, synchronization techniques, memory management, and data structures
  • Strong command of C/C++ with expertise in database internals and/or operating system internals
  • Experience with Linux programming, debugging, and operating system interfaces
  • Knowledge of system-level design principles such as operating system fundamentals, file systems, access methods, and networking
  • Familiarity with cloud storage technologies, containerization (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes)
  • Experience in designing and implementing database architectures, including distributed database systems, is an asset
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging capabilities
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently, and take initiative to prioritize and resolve issues
