About the Opportunity:
The Mate is a key member of our City Cruises team, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our passenger vessels in the Niagara Gorge. This role requires a high level of adaptability, dynamic thinking, and a commitment to our RESPECT Service System.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate the vessel with due regard for our Safety Management System, the Vessel Security Plan, and proper Standards of Watchkeeping.
- Work with crew members to maintain Marine Transportation Safety, Security, and efficient operation of the vessel.
- Routinely inspect the vessel for unsafe conditions, assist in accident investigations, and make safety announcements to ensure the safety and comfort of the crew and passengers.
- Participate in training talks and emergency drills, and conduct safety meetings to ensure an efficient and safe operation of the vessel.
- Maintain vessel operations and maintenance logs, and report non-conformities to the Designated Person.
- Ensure the safe operation of the vessel at all times, and adhere to all health and safety regulations.
- Support Safety Services and Facilities, F&B, Guest Experience, and all other departments as required.
- Role model safe working practices, good customer service, and professional behavior at all times.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Minimum Transport Canada Mate 150 Gross Tonnage certificate.
- Consideration will be given to candidates with a Mate Limited over 60 Gross Tonnage certificate who possess sufficient supporting experience.
- Current Marine Basic First Aid.
- Current Transport Canada approved medical for domestic operations.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in the marine environment.
- Ships Security Officer Certificate an asset.
- Small Vessel Machinery Operator license an asset.
- Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check.
- A positive attitude and good work ethic.
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift up to 45 pounds (20 kilograms).
- Walk, stand, sit and work in all types of weather conditions for extended periods.
- Continually and repeatedly perform functions indoors and outdoors.
