Job Overview

As a key member of the Qualico Canada team, the Assistant Drafting Manager will serve as the team lead for the Broadview/Sterling Drafting department. This role requires strong management, design, and technical expertise to support the business unit and its goals. The successful candidate will develop and maintain standard home plans, review and create design work for construction, and provide guidance to the design team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Aiding in the development of new product offerings, including distinct architectural facades and plan development, to meet market demand and industry trends.
  • Preparing and submitting preliminary and final plot plans based on specifications and legislation, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Liaising with sales to prepare and finalize customized home plans according to customer requests and design requirements, reviewing and preparing final drawings for homeowner approvals.
  • Completing drawings and specifications for developer approvals, adjusting when necessary, to ensure timely project completion.
  • Completing correspondence documentation for permit applications to municipalities and sending permits to trades accordingly, maintaining accurate records.
  • Monitoring work performance of the department, reviewing weekly project progress schedules, and revising schedules as necessary to ensure efficient project delivery.
  • Mentoring, developing, and providing guidance to Design team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Maintaining a knowledge base of applicable municipal bylaws and building codes for all, developing and applying structural and mechanical requirements in design.
  • Preparing and maintaining brochure materials for marketing of product, reviewing and approving product renderings to ensure high-quality visual representation.
  • Reviewing constructability of homes and leveraging opportunities for value engineering, ensuring cost-effective solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architectural Design or equivalent.
  • Minimum 6 years of design and drafting experience.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role is preferred.
  • Satisfactory verification of criminal record check.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Team, SharePoint, and PowerPoint), and architectural drafting software (SoftPlan, AutoCAD, Revit).

Working Conditions

The successful candidate will primarily work in an office setting during regular business hours. Travel to sites and overtime may occasionally be required.
