This role demands strong communication skills, both verbal and written, which are essential for maintaining relationships with clients and team members. You should be comfortable leading meetings and technical discussions to represent Plan Group proficiently.

As a seasoned Electrical Design Manager, you will be expected to work autonomously in a dynamic environment, managing multiple projects and client needs. Your problem-solving and decision-making abilities should be exemplary, along with a strong sense of urgency and the capability to prioritize effectively. A willingness to learn and contribute to the team is paramount.

In your role as Electrical Design Manager, you will:

  • Lead Integrated Pursuits with a focus on electrical aspects.
  • Interpret issued Statements of Requirements and job specifications to create competitive submissions.
  • Engage effectively with stakeholders, clients, and partners.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to enhance efficiency and pricing strategies.
  • Work alongside design teams to ensure project designs are both efficient and cost-effective, aligning with project specifications.
  • Manage project timelines and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Coordinate with consultant partners on system layouts and decision-making for estimates.
  • Understand the implications of design decisions on building operations.
  • Generate precise quotations through material and labor assessments.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers for pricing information.
  • Oversee project tasks within budgetary and time constraints, ensuring quality of work from team members.
  • Facilitate system installations in conjunction with other design disciplines.
  • Research and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and profitability.
  • Stay informed on current industry practices, codes, and standards.
  • Participate in bid reviews and transition meetings.
  • Develop and maintain new business opportunities.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior design personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of five (5) years of engineering experience in the Electrical Construction sector, with an Electrical Engineering degree/diploma or related education/training.
  • Professional Engineer designation in Ontario or BC, or Ingénieur designation in Québec, is an asset.
  • Experience in Design Build/P3 Healthcare projects, particularly in distribution, fire alarm, and lighting systems, is essential.
  • Design Build Construction experience, ideally completing a full cycle P3 project, is a significant advantage.
  • Familiarity with various Low Voltage systems (e.g., Security, IT Systems, Nurse Call) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant building and electrical codes/standards (e.g., NBCC, OESC, CSA, NFPA, etc.) is required.
  • Willingness to travel for meetings with Architects and Consultants is necessary.
  • A solid understanding of how design decisions affect costs is crucial.
  • Strong decision-making skills for the continuation of estimate development are required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with Accubid Pro and/or Enterprise is a definite asset.
  • Experience with various building types (Office Towers, Courthouses, Data Centres), Transit/Rail, and/or multi-discipline experience is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and NMS specifications is advantageous.
