Violence Prevention Support Specialist
Job Overview:
The Violence Prevention Support Specialist will deliver therapeutic assistance to women (including cis, non-binary, and trans women) who have faced sexual violence, intimate partner abuse, or childhood trauma. The specialist will adopt a trauma-informed, feminist, and client-centered approach. The focus will be on understanding the client's unique needs, collaboratively setting and achieving counselling objectives, and employing diverse therapeutic techniques. This role will empower clients to comprehend the emotional, cognitive, and physical repercussions of violence and abuse, while fostering their self-efficacy. The specialist will manage client cases and provide support to individuals and small groups, reporting directly to the Clinical Director for guidance and oversight.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with local organizations that offer services to victims of sexual assault, childhood abuse, domestic violence, and other violent offenses.
- Deliver counselling services grounded in a feminist framework.
- Refer clients to additional services when their needs exceed the program's capabilities.
- Advocate for clients when necessary.
- Maintain precise documentation and records regarding clients; ensure all required paperwork is thorough and confidential.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant human services field or equivalent experience.
- A solid understanding of women's issues, including the dynamics of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, childhood trauma, and secondary trauma.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong interpersonal and counselling skills, along with excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Effective organizational, time management, and general management skills.
- Knowledge of group dynamics and facilitation methods.
- Comprehensive understanding of trauma.
- In-depth knowledge of the cycle of abuse and the effects of violence.
- Capacity to establish a respectful partnership with clients and their families, enabling them to acquire essential skills and confidence to tackle their challenges.
- Genuine belief in individuals' potential for growth and change.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
- Skill in setting boundaries while maintaining a supportive role, intervening appropriately to meet the needs of clients and their families.
- Sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural diversity within the client population.
