About Us:

PFM Construction is a reputable firm specializing in excavation and civil engineering projects, with a focus on underground utilities, site servicing, road construction, and excavation services. We are currently seeking a skilled Civil Superintendent to enhance our workforce. Candidates should possess a minimum of 10 years of civil experience, particularly in water, sanitary, storm, and hydro/telephone utilities, and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in workmanship.

Job Overview:

As a Civil Superintendent at PFM Construction, your primary responsibility will be to oversee one or more job sites dedicated to the installation of various underground utilities. You will ensure that all installations comply with local and municipal standards, maintaining the correct grade and elevation. This position demands meticulous attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and effective communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage construction projects, ensuring compliance with contract specifications and PFM Construction's operational procedures.
  • Uphold safety standards for all personnel, including subcontractors, to foster a secure and hazard-free work environment.
  • Prepare and maintain necessary documentation, including daily logs, health and safety records, and maintenance reports, in accordance with reporting guidelines.
  • Coordinate daily construction operations, managing construction teams, equipment, material supply, and subcontractor activities.
  • Work collaboratively with the Project Manager to develop and execute construction schedules, confirming the availability of manpower, equipment, and subcontractors.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of experience in civil utility construction, with expertise in deep sewer projects.
  • Strong contract comprehension skills, with the ability to identify and manage tasks beyond the project scope.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating resilience under pressure.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a strong focus on detail.
  • Proven safety record and thorough understanding of occupational hazards and safe practices around live utilities and sloped terrain.
  • Proficiency in trenching, shoring, trench box assembly, and safe excavation methodologies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience in accurately completing field paperwork and timesheets.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of pipe gradients, materials, specifications, fittings, assembly, proper bedding, backfill, and compaction techniques, as well as the safeguarding of other services.
  • Ability to work effectively with clients, project managers, internal teams, and subcontractors.
  • Thorough understanding of MMCD and OH&S regulations, along with solid knowledge of construction materials and methodologies.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and achieving production objectives.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, ensuring responsible use of equipment and tools.
  • Strong desire to deliver high-quality workmanship.
  • Proactive problem-solving abilities to identify and address issues efficiently.
  • Willingness to work 5 to 6 days a week, with shifts of 8+ hours per day, including extended hours as necessary.
  • Capability to travel to various job site locations in the Lower Mainland.
