Position Overview

The City of Ottawa is seeking a dedicated professional to join the Recreation, Cultural and Facility Services department. This role is pivotal in fostering a vibrant community through the arts, ensuring that residents and visitors can engage with a variety of cultural programs and facilities.

Key Responsibilities

As an Advanced Arts Educator, you will:

  • Design, implement, and assess innovative instructional programs across various artistic disciplines including theatre, dance, music, visual arts, literature, and multimedia.
  • Engage with participants of all ages, adapting teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Collaborate with local arts organizations and educational institutions to enhance program offerings.
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all participants, adhering to health and safety regulations.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A degree in Fine Arts, Art History, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in the arts.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in teaching or practicing within the arts sector.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a wide range of age groups in an educational setting.

Certifications

Current certifications in Standard First Aid, CPR, and/or AED are required, along with training in AODA Customer Service and High Five principles.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A passion for the arts and the ability to inspire creativity in others.
  • Organizational skills and the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing environments and diverse participant needs.

Additional Information

Language proficiency may be required in English, French, or both, depending on the location of the position. A police record check will be necessary for successful candidates.
