Quantum Computing Software Engineer

Company Overview: D-Wave Systems Inc. stands at the forefront of quantum computing technology, pioneering the creation and provision of quantum computing systems, software, and services. Our quantum systems and cloud services are utilized by some of the most advanced organizations globally. Role Overview: The processor software division at D-Wave is tasked with the development and maintenance of software that underpins both processor development and hardware engineering. This role is crucial in supporting the advancement of our quantum processor technology. We are looking for a mid-level software engineer to become part of our processor software team. The ideal candidate will possess a solid foundation in engineering physics, physics, or a related field, and will collaborate closely with both programmers and physicists to create software that interfaces with our quantum processors in both production and experimental settings. The software is primarily developed in Common Lisp (SBCL) and plays a vital role in various functions such as design, modeling, testing, calibration, and operational tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

Engage in the complete software product lifecycle, including development, testing, validation, deployment, maintenance, and decommissioning. Collaborate with team members and scientists to enhance all facets of quantum processor calibration, hardware interfaces, and operational infrastructure, including system testing and monitoring. Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot software for system hardware, including control systems and processor electronics. Enhance and maintain custom software tools that support laboratory operations.

Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in engineering physics, electrical/computer engineering, or physics, with a minimum of 2 years of relevant software experience. A degree in computer science with a strong physics background and hardware experience will also be considered. Proficiency in developing and optimizing software in compiled languages and in multithreaded environments. Experience in implementing hardware interfaces. Intermediate experience with Git, including branching, merging, and pull requests. Familiarity with Linux environments. Strong written and verbal communication skills in a technical context. A collaborative approach and proven ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team on diverse challenges. A self-driven, proactive, adaptable, inquisitive, and passionate attitude towards continuous learning.

Preferred Skills:

Experience with Common Lisp or similar languages such as Scheme, Clojure, or Scala. Knowledge of tools such as Emacs, Docker, Jenkins, SQL, MongoDB, InfluxDB, Grafana, and Redis.
