Role Overview:

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Strategic Procurement (Indirects), the Senior Category Specialist will leverage extensive strategic expertise in procurement as it pertains to category management, strategic sourcing, contract lifecycle oversight, and supplier relationship cultivation. The focus will be on managing third-party expenditures, particularly in IT and Digital initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with internal business stakeholders to develop and implement effective category strategies.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal customers and stakeholders to align with business objectives and supplier partnerships.
  • Engage with internal category teams and business partners to gain a thorough understanding of business needs, establishing both short-term and long-term goals.
  • Spearhead contract renewals and strategic sourcing efforts, including scoping, spend analysis, sourcing, negotiation, and contracting.
  • Oversee the RFx process and assist in formulating negotiation strategies for agreements of varying value and risk.
  • Conduct comprehensive market research, assess supplier capabilities, and analyze industry best practices and technological advancements to enhance competitive positioning.
  • Ensure adherence to purchasing policies, ethical standards, and compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Formulate and execute category and sourcing strategies that directly impact financial performance and growth objectives.
  • Manage supplier contracts and governance programs to ensure delivery meets expectations and complies with corporate and regulatory standards.
  • Drive and report on Procurement Key Performance Indicators, including cost savings, spend management, and supplier optimization.
  • Ensure that organizational financial targets are achieved and monitor cost-saving initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Procurement Leadership Team to create and implement initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of procurement processes.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in leading strategic projects, procurement, contract management, category management, or sourcing within specified categories.
  • Exceptional relationship-building, interpersonal, and communication skills (both verbal and written) are essential.
  • Familiarity with source-to-pay tools, including e-sourcing, contract management, and spend analytics.
  • Knowledge in categories related to cargo, ground handling services, or direct labor agreements is considered advantageous.
  • Strong negotiation, contracting, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • A willingness to learn, mentor others, and be open to mentorship.
  • A Bachelor's degree in business or a related field; a Supply Chain Canada designation is a plus.
