Responsibilities

The Certified Medical Assistant is equipped to execute approved clinical and non-clinical tasks under the direct supervision of a Medical Provider, LPN, or RN. The role involves assisting the Clinical Team in delivering patient care in accordance with established policies and procedures, tailored to the specific needs of the patient demographic.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Exhibit proficiency in patient care procedures and technical skills relevant to the clinical area and patient population.
  2. Conduct phlebotomy, perform various point-of-care tests, monitor vital signs, conduct urinalysis, EKGs, and manage specimen collection and processing. Report any issues or abnormal findings to the Medical Provider and ensure all documentation is completed accurately.
  3. Recognize changes in patient conditions and basic care requirements, implementing appropriate interventions as per policy and referring to the Medical Provider as necessary.
  4. Maintain a secure environment for patients and staff, adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
  5. Demonstrate understanding of ambulatory care settings and workflows pertinent to a multi-specialty office.
  6. Assist patients with administrative tasks related to care delivery, including Disability and Workers' Compensation paperwork, authorizations, and act as a patient navigator when required.
  7. Document all patient interactions and tasks in both electronic and hard copy medical records, following established policies and procedures.
  8. Utilize the Electronic Practice Management System effectively, adhering to all related policies and procedures.
  9. Maintain collaborative working relationships and support colleagues in fulfilling their responsibilities within the scope of the CMA/MA role.
  10. Accept and execute directives from Medical Providers and management team members.
  11. Participate in business-related meetings as needed.
  12. Provide exemplary customer service in alignment with the clinic's mission.
  13. Uphold patient confidentiality in accordance with policies and HIPAA regulations.

Employees may be required to walk, sit, and perform tasks such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The ability to lift and/or move up to one hundred (100) pounds is necessary. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, with current certification from an accredited Certified Medical Assistant program. Some college education in medical, business, or healthcare fields is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of five years in a medical office or healthcare facility setting is required. Proficiency in CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding is essential, along with familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).

A valid NY State Driver's license or the ability to travel within the designated area is required.
