Responsibilities
The Certified Medical Assistant is equipped to execute approved clinical and non-clinical tasks and technical procedures under the direct oversight of a Medical Provider, LPN, or RN. This role supports the Clinical Team in delivering patient care in accordance with St. John's Medical, PC policies and procedures, tailored to the age groups of the patients served and the specific clinical practice area. Maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment is essential, with an emphasis on understanding the clinical patient population.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Exhibit proficiency in patient care procedures and technical skills relevant to the clinical area and the needs of the patient population.
- Conduct phlebotomy, various point-of-care tests, vital signs assessments, urinalysis, EKGs, and collect and process specimens. Report and refer issues or abnormal data to the Medical Provider as necessary, ensuring all related documentation is completed.
- Recognize changes in patients' conditions and basic care needs, implementing appropriate interventions per policy and referring to the Medical Provider as needed.
- Ensure a safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to relevant precautions and protocols (OSHA, Infection Control, HIPAA).
- Demonstrate knowledge of the ambulatory care setting and workflows pertinent to a multi-specialty office.
- Assist patients with administrative aspects of care, including Disability and Workers' Compensation paperwork, Home Health documentation, and authorizations, acting as a patient navigator when applicable.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all patient care or tasks in medical records (both electronic and hard copy), adhering to policies and procedures set forth by SJR Medical, PC.
- Utilize the Electronic Practice Management System (currently MedGen) daily, following all relevant policies and procedures.
- Possess knowledge of insurance companies, ICD-10, CPT coding, and general front desk responsibilities.
- Foster cooperative working relationships and provide support to colleagues in fulfilling their duties within the scope of the CMA/MA position/certification.
- Accept and execute directions as delegated by Medical Providers and management team members.
- Participate in business-related meetings as requested.
- Assist in other areas of the practice as required.
- Deliver customer service aligned with the clinic's mission.
- Exhibit courteous and respectful behavior when interacting with patients, their families, caregivers, co-workers, and all other individuals.
- Uphold patient confidentiality in accordance with policy and HIPAA requirements.
- Follow the proper chain of command for patient complaints and office needs requiring management input.
Physical Requirements of the Job
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; current certification from an accredited Certified Medical Assistant program; some college preferred with a focus on medical, business, or healthcare.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a medical office or healthcare facility; internet savvy; knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS coding; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
